The First Prize Winner of the 2012 Randie Hofer Scholarship Fund is Miami Beach Senior High School Junior Melissa Bustos. She won for her daunting Essay on author and abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) who couragiously spoke out about slavery and civil rights through her 1852 novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" which inspired Melissa to write her own essay to inform her community about the issues of Human Trafficking and slavery in our world today. Second prize was awarded to Kaidian Cargill for her Essay on Constance Baker Motley. Click above to read both of these compelling stories.
